UD Bookstore offers 3 textbook-ordering options

1:49 p.m., Aug. 8, 2006--UD Bookstore now offers incoming and returning students three different ways to order textbooks for their fall semester classes--by way of the online Student Information System (SIS), by way of the UD Bookstore web site or by way of the old-fashioned phone.

According to Jennifer Galt, general manager of UD Bookstore, the three different options are provided to make textbook ordering as easy and quick as possible for a widely dispersed student population, and the addition of the SIS route gives extra efficiency to the process.

“Students can still order textbooks by visiting the University Bookstore's website at [www.udel.edu/bookstore] or by calling in their order by phone at (302) 831-2637,” Galt said. “But, by using SIS, they can streamline the ordering process significantly, because all the information about their classes is preloaded in the system's database.”

Ordering by way of SIS, Galt said, saves students the time-consuming process of designating courses and sections because all that information is already linked to each student's account. Rather than scrolling through lengthy menus, students, in fact, need only choose between “new” or “used,” “ship” or “pickup,” and payment methods that include all major credit cards, debit cards, FLEX cards and financial aid.

“SIS is a really appealing option for students between 18 and 22,” Galt said, “because that's a demographic that is really accustomed to shopping online.” The SIS option also gives textbook bargain-hunters the leading edge, Galt said, because it offers the “used” textbook choice option.

Though all three ordering options allow students to specify whether or not they want their textbooks shipped to their home addresses (for an extra shipping charge), Galt said most students opt to pick up their books when they arrive on campus.

Shipping begins Wednesday, Aug. 9, and pickups begin Wednesday, Aug. 23, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.

“We're offering the option for students to pick up their books a little early this year, before actual residence hall check-in begins,” Galt said, “but no matter when students who've pre-ordered their books come to collect them, the pickup process is really streamlined, and we offer one-stop shopping for students who've ordered laptops, as well. They can pick everything up in one trip.”

Information on how to access SIS accounts was distributed last semester to returning students and during DelaWorld orientation to new students.
