UD women’s lacrosse team tops Loyola 18-7

8:32 a.m., April 25, 2007--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team defeated Loyola College of Maryland 18-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 10-5 on the season, the most victories in a season since 2000. The Hens also snapped a 12-game losing streak against Loyola.

UD will complete the regular season with a game against Villanova University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 27, at Rullo Stadium. The Hens enter the game 8-0 at Rullo and will try to become the first team since 1983 to finish undefeated at home.

The Hens scored early and often, taking a 13-3 lead into the half. Junior Casey McCrudden led the attack with four goals and four assists, and both sophomore Debbie Sloan and senior Katie Muth had four goals and one assist.

Courtney Aburn had two goals and one assist, Emily Schaknowski had two goals, Nicole Flego had one goal and two assists, and Amanda Alrich had one goal.

UD goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny had five saves and Jordan Fischer had one.

The Hens are 5-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association and can finish no worse than third. If James Madison University defeats Hofstra University in a game to be played Friday, UD will enter the CAA championship tournament as the No. 2 seed.
