UD women’s lacrosse wins weekend matches

8:16 a.m., April 16, 2007--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team won two Colonial Athletic Association games this weekend, defeating the College of William and Mary 12-6 on Friday before edging Old Dominion University 7-6 in overtime in a downpour Sunday. Both games were played at Rullo Stadium.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are now 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the CAA. They will return to action with a conference home game against Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 20, at Rullo Stadium.

In the victory over William and Mary, the Hens got three goals and an assist from freshman attack Courtney Aburn. Debbie Sloan, Katie Muth and Casey McCrudden each had two goals and one assist, Nicole Flego had one goal and two assists and Emily Schaknowski and Amanda Jones had one goal each. Goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny had 11 saves.

On Sunday, Old Dominion broke out to a 4-0 lead but the Hens battled back for the tie and, in the second overtime period, the victory. Aburn had two goals, including the winner, and Flego had a goal and two assists. Schaknowski and Muth both had a goal and an assist, and Sloan and McCrudden also scored. Cerveny had five saves.
