UD track and field teams compete at Penn Relays

8:51 a.m., April 30, 2007--The University of Delaware track and field teams took part in the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Cristine Marquez, Asha Quant, Daniella Price and Liz Harvin finished fifth overall in 3:51.97, the third best time in school history

The UD women's 4x200-meter relay team of Brittany Wright, Quant, Price and Harvin finished seventh with a time of 1:42.40 and the 4x100-meter relay team of Wright, Quant, Price and Harvin finished third in its heat.

In individual events, Laura Chirico finished ninth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, and Kelli McDonald finished 12th in the pole vault. Asha Quant finished 16th in the long jump.

In men's competition, UD's Jared Wasser finished ninth in the shot put a toss of 50 feet, 4.5 inches. Also for the Fightin' Blue Hens, Matt Guida finished 12th in the pole vault, and Gregg Cantwell finished 28th and Kyle Schmid 34th in the 5,000-meter run.

The UD 4x100-meter relay team of Scott Vari, M.J. Rawls, Chris Johnson and Nick Morrissey finished ninth and the 4x200-meter relay team of Steven Jackson, Morrissey, Alex Tingue and Rawls also finished ninth.

In other weekend action, the Hens competed at the Lehigh University Games on Saturday afternoon.

Alexi Capsouras won two events, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 14.98 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.33. Other members of the UD women's team who won events were Amanda Marshall, who took the discus with a throw of 141 feet; McDonald, who won the pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, 5.75 inches; and Kellyn Wright, who won the 800-meter run in 2:19.

Also for the women's team, Rachel Young finished second in the discus and fourth in both the shot put and hammer throw; Annie Fulton was second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump; Chirico was second in the pole vault; Stephanie Cronk was third in the discus, seventh in the hammer and ninth in the javelin; and Christina Antonopoulous was third in the 800-meter run.

In men's competition, UD's Brandon Swartout won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 7.25 inches. Chase Renoli finished second in the discus and 11th in the shot put, with Doug Alpers third in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Guida was third in the pole vault and Kevin Kemmerle was third in the 5,000-meter run.
