Scholarship benefit golf tourney set May 4

2:29 p.m., April 27, 2007--Alpha Phi sorority and UD alums who were members of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity before the chapter closed in 1994 will host a golf tournament starting at 8 a.m., Friday, May 4, at the Delcastle Golf Club in Wilmington, to raise money for the Ricky Barbour Scholarship Fund.

Barbour, a 1986 UD grad and a member of Delta Tau Delta received his law degree at Rutgers University Law School. His life was cut tragically short one night when he was robbed at an ATM machine and killed by a 16-year-old.

Proceeds raised from the tournament will be used for the scholarship, given to a UD senior who is graduating and has been accepted to an accredited law school. The winner of the scholarship will be selected by Tom Apple, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"We formed the scholarship two years ago. The first year we were able to award a deserving student $1,500, and last year it increased to $2,500," Pablo Trucco, friend and fraternity brother of Mr. Barbour, said. "Rick was a true inspiration to those who knew him, and there were many."

Total cost of the tournament--which includes breakfast, green fees, door prizes, games, prizes, awards and lunch--is $50 for students and $125 for nonstudents.
