Blue Hen tennis teams fall 4-3, 5-2 to UMBC
Liz Perlow won her 53rd singles match, moving into fifth place all-time in career wins.
8:48 a.m., April 11, 2007--The University of Delaware tennis teams dropped a pair of matches to the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Tuesday afternoon at the Delaware Field House courts, with the women's team falling 4-3 and the men's team 5-2.

Picking up singles victories for the Fightin' Blue Hens were Amanda Campbell, Liz Perlow and Laura Honig. Campbell downed Joy Adewumi 6-4, 7-6 (6) at No. 2, while senior Liz Perlow moved into fifth place all-time in career singles victories with 53 by defeating Pascaline Cette 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at No. 3. Laura Honig topped Barbara Couto 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in a thrilling match at No. 6.

UMBC's Alice Chen defeated Elena Berry 4-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Cornelia Carapcea defeated Alexa Dragonette 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-3 at No. 4 and Adriana Fonseca defeated Brittany Barsky 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.

UMBC's Chen and Paola Radolfi defeated Campbell and Berry 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Elizabeth Anderson and Fonseca ended Dragonette and Barsky's five-match win streak with an 8-3 win at No. 2. Perlow and Julie Schiller picked up the lone UD doubles victory as they defeated Carapcea and Adewumi 8-7 (6) at No. 3.

In the men's match, Austin Longacre and Jon Schwartz picked up the only Delaware victories. Longacre defeated Chris Meyer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Schwartz defeated Nick Savage-Pollack 2-6, 7-6 (6), 10-8 at No. 5.

UMBC swept the doubles as Fredi Voorman and Savage-Pollack defeated Longacre and Andrew Blumberg 8-3 at No. 1, David Jackson and Irfan Shamasdin defeated Jason Hanschmann and Nolan Greenberg 8-2 at No. 2, and Meyer and Fernando Ferreira defeated Sam Barrer and Camilo Perez 8-6 at No. 3.

The UD men's team will return to action Friday, April 13, when they host the University of North Carolina Wilmington in a match that will begin at 9 a.m. at the Delaware Field House courts. The women's team will face Hofstra University at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 14, also at the Delaware Field House courts.
