Blue Hen tennis teams defeat Drexel 6-1, 6-1

8 a.m., April 10, 2007--The University of Delaware tennis teams posted 6-1, 6-1 victories over Drexel University in Colonial Athletic Association matches played Monday afternoon, April 9, at the Delaware Field House tennis courts.

It was the third straight win for the men's and women's tennis teams and follows a 7-0, 7-0 sweep of George Mason University last Friday.

UD will return to action with a nonconference match against the University of Maryland Baltimore County at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, at the Delaware Field House courts.

In men's play, the lone Drexel win was at No. 1 singles, where Omar Laalej defeated Austin Longacre. UD went on the get singles wins from Nolan Greenberg, Matt Leibman, Sam Barrer, Jon Schwartz and Camilo Perez.

In doubles action, the Fightin' Blue Hens won two of three matches as Longacre and Andrew Blumberg won their third straight match by defeating Harrison Clare and Carlo Panquilinan at No. 2 and Perez and Barrer, the reigning CAA doubles team of the week, won their sixth straight match by defeating Ben Trabin and Ayushya Wadhwan at No. 3. Drexel picked up its only win at No. 1, where Laalej and Joe Koebele defeated Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann.

In women's play, Gabriela Marginean earned Drexel's only singles win by defeating UD freshman Elena Berry at No. 1. It was the first loss of the season for Berry since moving into the No. 1 singles spot.

Delaware's Amanda Campbell, Liz Perlow, Alexa Dragonette, Brittany Barskey and Laura Honig won singles matches.

In doubles, Drexel's Marginean and Emily Lewis defeated Berry and Campbell at No. 1. UD's Dragonette and Barsky picked up their fifth straight win as a duo by defeating Mellissa Lewis and Lara Hamad at No. 2, while Perlow and Julie Schiller defeated Hana Stecovca and Ashley Doriss at No. 3.
