Delaware tennis teams sweep George Mason

9:24 a.m., April 9, 2007--The University of Delaware tennis teams won 30 of 31 sets in 7-0, 7-0 victories over George Mason University in Colonial Athletic Association matches played Friday afternoon at the Delaware Field House tennis courts.

For the UD women's team, Elena Barry picked up her third straight win at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Maricel Ballester, while Amanda Campbell downed Alexandria LaCoste 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Liz Perlow moved into sixth place on the all-time career wins list by posting her 51st singles victory over Julia Moscato 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 and Alexa Dragonette posted her team-leading 16th singles victory by topping Meredith Cutchin 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4.

Brittany Barsky recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alicia Van Zandt at No. 5 and Laura Honig won 6-1, 6-4 against Claudia Antezano at No. 6.

In doubles, Berry and Campbell teamed to defeat Ballester and Cutchin 8-7 (2) at No. 1, while Dragonette and Barsky posted their fourth straight win as a doubles team by downing Moscato and Van Zandt 8-3. Perlow and Schiller topped LaCoste and Jennifer Kramer 8-1 to round out the doubles sweep.

In men's play, UD's Nolan Greenberg defeated Anastas Budagov 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Austin Longacre breezed pass Daniel Scheinder 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.

Matt Leibman downed Jordan Lipstock 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 and Sam Barrer picked up his fifth straight win, a season-high for any Delaware men's player, by beating Jay Friedman 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Jon Schwartz defeated Matthew Vaughn 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 and Camilo Perez downed Martin Brown 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Longacre and Andrew Blumberg had no trouble with Lipstock and Friedman as they posted an 8-1 win at No. 1, while Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann topped Budagov and Daniel Scheinder 8-6 at No. 2. Barrer and Perez, the current CAA doubles team of the week, posted their team leading fifth straight win of the year by defeating Vaughn and Matt Schneider 8-4 at No. 3.

The UD tennis teams will be back in action Monday, April 9, when they host Drexel University at 2:30 p.m. at the Delaware Field House courts.
