Delaware tennis team drops weekend matches

8:19 a.m., April 2, 2007--The University of Delaware women's tennis team, hosting the CAA Women's Weekend tournament, fell 7-0 to the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Friday and 4-3 to James Madison University on Sunday.

In the narrow loss to James Madison, the Fightin' Blue Hens picked up singles wins from freshman Elena Berry, junior Alexa Dragonette and junior Brittany Barsky.

Berry defeated Mary Napier 6-2, 6-1 in her No. 1 singles debut for the Hens. Dragonette topped Briana Jain 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Barsky cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lauren Graham at No. 5.

James Madison's Anna Khoor defeated Amanda Campbell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Rebecca Erickson recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win over Liz Perlow at No. 3 and Kelly Maxwell defeated Laura Honig 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Napier and Khoor teamed up to defeat Berry and Campbell 9-8 in a thrilling match at No. 1 doubles, while Erickson and Jain downed Dragonette and Julie Schillier 8-1 at No. 2. Completing the doubles sweep for James Madison was the duo of Graham and Maxwell who downed Perlow and Barsky 8-6 at No. 3.

On Friday, UNC Wilmington swept the Hens. Molly Molony defeated Campbell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Cassie Martin recorded a 5-7, 6-1, 11-9 victory over Berry at No. 2. Priscilla Roberts defeated Perlow 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, while Kayla Schwenk came from behind to top Dragonette 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 4. Lauren Isenhour downed Barsky 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, and Hartley Collins completed the singles sweep by defeating Honig 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.

Molony and Roberts defeated Campbell and Berry 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Isenhour and Schwenk downed Dragonette and Julie Schiller 8-4 at No. 2. Martin and Jamie DeGraffenreid teamed up to completed the doubles sweep for UNC Wilmington by posting an 8-1 victory over Perlow and Barsky at No. 3.

The Hens will return to action with a match at Lafayette College at 3 p.m., Monday, April 2.
