George Mason tops UD in CAA softball series
Carolynn Sloat threw a shutout against George Mason on Saturday.
8:18 a.m., April 30, 2007--After winning the first game of a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series against George Mason University, the University of Delaware softball team dropped the next two in action at Delaware Field.

Following the weekend series, the Fightin' Blue Hens are 15-23-2 overall and 6-11 in the CAA. They will play a nonconference doubleheader at Bucknell University beginning at 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, then will close the season with a weekend conference series at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

UD took the first game of the series against George Mason 2-0 on Saturday as senior pitcher Carolynn Sloat allowed just two singles in the 24th shutout of her career. She struck out five batters.

The Hens scored both runs in the second inning, as a ground out by Quinn Megargel scored Michelle Kenney and a single by Katie Lee brought home Cecile Egan.

In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, George Mason jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and went on to win 6-3. Megargel and Allison Borchers had two hits each for the Hens.

Sunday's game saw the Hens fall 9-0, with Megargel getting a pair of hits.
