James Madison tops UD in softball twinbill

8:01 a.m., April 16, 2007--Powered by five home runs, the James Madison University softball team swept a doubleheader against the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday at Delaware Field. A third game scheduled Sunday was rained out and will not be made up.

James Madison won the opener 9-1, snapping a six-game UD win streak, and the second game 4-0. With the losses, the Fightin' Blue Hens are now 13-16-1 overall and 5-6 in the conference.


In the opener, UD senior pitcher Carolynn Sloat went the distance and took the loss. The Hens' lone run came in the first inning when Allison Borchers, who had singled and stolen a base, scored on a single by Michelle Kenney.

UD pitcher Samantha Shawn went all seven innings and suffered the loss in the second game. The Hens managed just three hits, one of those a double by Kim Ovittore.

The Hens are scheduled to return to action with a doubleheader against Villanova University beginning at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at Delaware Field.
