Delaware rowing team competes in Knecht Cup

8:39 a.m., April 16, 2007--A sixth place finish in the grand finals by the second varsity eights crew highlighted the day for the University of Delaware rowing team at the Knecht Cup held Saturday on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. The second and final day of the regatta was canceled on Sunday due to rain.

UD competed in five categories at the regatta, finishing sixth in the grand finals in the second varsity eights and third in the petite (consolation) finals for an overall ninth place finish in the novice eights race. The Fightin' Blue Hens also competed in the varsity fours, second varsity fours and varsity eights but did not advance out of their heats.

In the second varsity eights, UD coxswain Cami Off and Katie Broullire, Lana Rivers, Jenn Boutin, Rachel Thomas, Maria Bellumori, Nicolette Lotrionte, Katie Gooding and Lynn Hamski placed second in its heat with a time of 7:19.4 to advance to the finals. In the finals, the Hens finished sixth with a time of 7:33.2. The University of Rhode Island won in 7:05.4.

The novice eights crew of coxswain Avery Griffin and Mary Grace Maggiano, Liz Cretekos, Alexx DeLorme, Jess Brooks, Regine Adrien, Brittany Hayes, Arielle Katz and Kialeen Hay finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:29.6 to advance to the petite finals. In the petite finals, the Hens finished third with a time of 7:32.3. The University of Connecticut won the petite finals race in a time of 7:23.0.

Also for the Hens, the varsity fours team of coxswain Amanda Burton and Maureen Reardon, Laura Anglim, Taima McCartney and Hillary Lambdin finished fourth in its heat with a time of 8:57.0 and the second varsity fours crew of coxswain Callie Tegan and Betsy Seeger, Lily Chavarriaga, Lambdin and Catherine Hansen finished fifth in its heat.

The varsity eights boat of coxswain Kenna Plangemann and Laura Beaufort, Lisa Ferrara, Elizabeth Carey, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Melanie Turner, Lisa Medina and Nikki Jackowsky finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:13.9.

UD will return to action Saturday, April 24, at the Kerr Cup and Colonial Athletic Association championships on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
