Pollack named assistant women’s tennis coach

11 a.m., April 22, 2007--Bob Pollack has been named an assistant coach for the University of Delaware women's tennis team, Head Coach Laura Travis announced recently.

Pollack, the father of Fightin' Blue Hens player Susan Pollack, joins the staff as a volunteer assistant coach. His main focus will be working with the women on stroke production, strategy, and doubles play. Pollack will also be an on-court coach for the women during matches.

He was a charter member of the United States Professional Registry and has been coaching locally since 1975. Pollack coached Alycia Katrinak, who played at the University of Maryland, Erika Guers, who played for St. Joseph's University, and Melissa, Ashley and Courtney Reed, who played for Villanova University.

Pollack also coached his daughter who, before an ankle injury this season, was playing No.1 singles and doubles for the Hens. She finished second in the Pennsylvania state tournament three times and third once as a member of the Wyomissing High School team that won four consecutive state tournaments. She is ninth all-time at Delaware with 49 career singles victories.

Pollack has been playing tennis since 1974 and was ranked in the Top 35 in men's singles in the Middle States section numerous times during his playing career. A native of Orwigsburg, Pa., he is a 1975 graduate of Lehigh University with a degree in political science.
