Men’s lacrosse rallies to defeat Villanova
UD freshman Curtis Dickson scored four goals in the victory over Villanova.
8:15 a.m., April 16, 2007--The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team scored the final four goals in a wild 19-18 victory over host Villanova University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest played Saturday night.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 7-5 and 2-2 in the CAA.

The Hens scored seven goals in the final quarter and rallied from an 18-15 deficit over the final seven minutes.

UD freshman Curtis Dickson started the comeback with a goal with 7:05 left to play and converted the game-winner off a feed from Jordan Hall with 2:49 left to play. The Hens had tied the game at 18-18 on a goal by Adam Zuder-Havens with 6:06 left.

Zuder-Havens finished with four goals and two assists, Dickson had four goals and an assist, Dan Deckelbaum scored three goals, Hall had two goals and two assists, and Vincent Giordano added two goals and an assist.

Warren Mayberry replaced starting goalkeeper Tommy Scherr in the second half and picked up the win, posting eight saves. The game's 37 goals matched the highest scoring game in which UD has been involved since a 19-18 victory over Rutgers University in 1999.

UD senior Alex Smith, the NCAA leader in face-off percentage and the all-time NCAA leader in career face-offs won and attempted, won 21 of 40 draws, setting a new school record for face-offs attempted in a game. The 40 attempts was just one shy of the NCAA record of 41 by Steve Vecchione of Johns Hopkins University in 1992.

The Hens will return to action with a CAA game against Sacred Heart University at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at Rullo Stadium.
