Research on women focus of April 14 conference

4:25 p.m., April 6, 2007--The Geis Student Research on Women Conference, a program designed to recognize student excellence in research, will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 14, in 125/126 Alfred Lerner Hall with refreshments and registration and end with closing remarks and announcement of awards at 4:15 p.m.

The conference is open to graduate and undergraduate students of the 12 member institutions of the Greater Philadelphia Women's Studies Consortium, including UD. Acceptance of papers is based on excellence and relevance of the research to women and/or gender issues. All accepted papers are entered into competition for the Geis Student Research Awards.

Papers will be presented on social issues and historical and literary humanities with UD faculty members and Ann Green of Saint Joseph's University serving as moderators.

Wunyabari Maloba, assistant vice president for affirmative action and multicultural programs at UD and associate professor of Black American Studies and Women's Studies, will welcome the group, and closing remarks will be made by Monika Shafi, director of Women's Studies and Elias Ahuja Professor of foreign languages and literatures.
