Blue-White scrimmage to be played Saturday
Defensive lineman Manny Marshall has been recognized as one of UD’s most improved players this spring.
8:29 a.m., April 13, 2007--The annual University of Delaware Blue-White spring football scrimmage, which culminates four weeks of practice, will be held at noon, Saturday, April 14, at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium.

Admission and parking are free and gates will open at 11 a.m. Fans are asked to sit in the west stands or in the end zone bleachers.

The game, which matches the Blue (offense) against the White (defense), will feature a modified scoring system. Head Coach K.C. Keeler and his staff expects to run the team through approximately 90 plays, including punts and punt returns.

The scrimmage will include six different segments, with each starting at a different yard line. The scoring system, which has been used the last three years, will have six points awarded for a touchdown, one point for an extra point kick, three points for a field goal, and two points for each first down. The defense can score points by scoring a touchdown (seven points), forcing a turnover (six points), and on change of possession (four points).

The Fightin' Blue Hens began spring practice in mid-March with two weeks of practice, took a one-week hiatus for spring break, and resumed drills on April 1. Because several practices were canceled due to inclement weather, the team will take part in two more practices next week before breaking camp.

Due to injuries, several key members of the squad will not be in action Saturday, including defensive linemen Matt Marcorelle, Jeremy Kametz, Raymond Jones and Mike Sothern, linebacker Brian Brown, defensive back Charles Graves, running back Corey Broyles, and wide receivers Aaron Love and Ryan Finnegan.

Keeler announced Thursday that junior defensive tackle Manny Marshall and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Kevin Uhll have been named the most improved players for spring drills.

Marshall, a 6-foot 3-inch, 295-pound junior, battled injuries during the 2006 season but appeared in eight games and had 10 tackles, including one tackle for loss. He also had three pass breakups.

Uhll, a 6-foot 4-inch, 240-pound redshirt freshman, did not see action as a true freshman in 2006 and retained his freshman eligibility. He earned All-State honors as a senior at North Penn High School in 2005 and led the team to the state title as a sophomore in 2003.
