Delaware track teams fifth, seventh in CAA

8:05 a.m., April 23, 2007--The University of Delaware finished fifth in the men's competition and seventh in the women's competition at the Colonial Athletic Association outdoor track and field championships held at James Madison University.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington won the men's title with 251.5 points, easily outdistancing the runner-up College of William and Mary, which finished with 183 points.

Northeastern University won the women's title with 163 points, edging William and Mary, the six-time defending champion, which finished with 156 points.

Top individual performers for UD were senior Jared Wasser, who finished second in both the shot put, with a throw of 53 feet and three-quarter inches, and hammer, with a throw of 155 feet, 11 inches; Cristine Marquez, who finished second in the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 55.34; and Amanda Marshall, who finished second in the discus with a school record throw of 144 feet, 4 inches.

Also in the men's competition, Chase Renoll was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus, the 4x100-meter relay team of M.J. Rawls, Jeree Turlington, Nick Morrissey and Steven Jackson finished fourth, Gregg Cantwell finished fourth in the 5,000-meter runs and sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Tony DiUlio finished fourth in the discus and seventh in the hammer.

Doug Alpers was fifth in the shot put and Matt Arbaugh in the pole vault, Dave Gyurina finished sixth in the javelin and the 4x400-meter relay team of Morrissey, Rawls, Jackson and Turlington finished seventh. Also, Bob Bartocci was eighth in the javelin, Brandon Swartout ninth in the long jump, Dave Schwartz 10th in the hammer and Matt Guida and Jake Cohen tied for 10th in the pole vault.

Also in the women's competition, Asha Quant was third in the long jump with school record leap of 19 feet, 8 inches, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Marquez, Liz Harvin, Alexi Capsouras and Brittany Wright finished seventh with a school record time of 3:49.46. Also in the women's competition, Laura Chirico finished third in the pole vault, and Capsouras finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with Wright, Quant and Liz Harvin and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Kelli McDonald finisheds fourth in the pole vault, Rachel Young finished sixth in the shot put and seventh in the hammer, Annie Kowtoniuk finished sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Yianna Antonopoulos finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run, Stephanie Cronk finished eighth in the javelin and 10th in the discus, Christina Antonopoulos finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run, Kellyn Wright finished 10th in the 800-meter run, and Brittany Wilder finished 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
