Old Dominion, VCU defeat UD tennis teams

8:18 a.m., April 23, 2007--Both University of Delaware tennis teams were knocked out of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament on Friday afternoon, with the men's team falling 4-0 to Old Dominion University and the women's team 4-0 to Virginia Commonwealth University. Matches were played at Huntington Park in Newport News, Va.

In men's singles, Old Dominion's Alex Seleznev defeated Matt Liebman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Eidy Igarashi defeated Sam Barrer 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and Rodrigo Souza defeated Jon Schwartz 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.

Old Dominion also took the doubles point as Harel Srugo and Henrique Cancado defeated Nolan Greenberg and Jason Hanschmann at No. 1 and Seleznev and Igarashi defeated Austin Longacre and Andrew Blumberg at No. 2.

In women's singles, Virginia Commonwealth's Tatsiana Uvarova defeated Elena Berry 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, Marianna Yuferova defeated Amanda Campbell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Vera Petrashevitch defeated Laura Honig 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

In doubles, Old Dominion's Yuferova and Olga Borisova defeated Berry and Campbell 8-0 at No. 1 and Uvarova and Petrashevitch defeated Alexa Dragonette and Brittany Barsky 8-1 at No. 2, just as Olena Leonchuk and Viktoria Konstantinova defeated Liz Perlow and Julie Schiller 8-0 at No. 3.

Both UD teams will conclude season with a match against Bucknell University at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at the Delaware Field House tennis courts.
