Delaware tennis teams advance to quarterfinals

8:10 a.m., April 20, 2007--The University of Delaware tennis teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament being held at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va.

Both the Fightin' Blue Hens men's and women's teams advanced by defeated George Mason University by identical 4-0 scores.

Quarterfinal matches will be played Friday, April 20, with the UD men's team facing No. 2 seed Old Dominion University at 2 p.m. and the women's team facing No. 2 seed Virginia Commonwealth University, also at 2 p.m.

The UD men's team topped George Mason with Austin Longacre defeating Daniel Schneider 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Matt Liebman defeating Jordan Lipstock 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Jon Schwartz defeating Matt Vaughn 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.

UD captured the doubles point as Longacre and Andrew Blumberg defeated Jay Friedman and Lipstock 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and Sam Barrer and Camilo Perez defeated Matt Schneider and Vaughn 8-3 at No. 3.

For the UD women's team, Amanda Campbell defeated Alexandria La Coste 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, Brittany Barsky defeated Alicia Van Zandt 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 and Laura Honig defeated Ellen Mathis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

UD won the doubles point as Elena Berry and Campbell defeated Maricel Ballester and La Coste 8-4 at No. 1, while Liz Perlow and Julie Schiller defeated Meredith Cutchin and Jennifer Kramer 8-1 at No. 3.
