UD rowing team second at CAA championships

8:36 a.m., April 23, 2007--The University of Delaware rowing team finished second in the Kerr Cup, which also serves as the Colonial Athletic Association championship, on Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. George Mason University won the championship, with 52 points, which the Fightin' Blue Hens earned 46.

UD has never finished lower than second at the CAA championships, winning titles in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 and finishing second in 2005.

The Hens were led by the novice eights team of coxswain Avery Griffin, Mary Grace Maggiano, Liz Cretekos, Alexx DeLorme, Jess Brooks, Regine Adrien, Brittany Hayes, Arielle Katz and Kialeen Hay, which won first place. The College of William and Mary finished second and George Mason finished third.

The second varsity eights boat of coxswain Cami Off, Katie Broullire, Lana Rivers, Jenn Boutin, Rachel Thomas, Maria Bellumori, Nicolette Lotrionte, Katie Gooding and Lynn Hamski finished second to George Mason, with Drexel University third.

The varsity eights crew of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Laura Beaufort, Lisa Ferrara, Elizabeth Carey, Melanie Turner, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Nikki Jackowsky and Lisa Medina finished third behind champion Drexel and runner-up George Mason.

The novice fours crew of coxswain Amanda Burton, Maureen Reardon, Hillary Lamdin, Laura Anglim and Erin Venturato finished third while the varsity fours team of coxswain Callie Tegan, Betsy Seeger, Emily Canniff, Lily Chavarriaga and Catherine Hansen finished fourth.

UD will continue action May 5-6 at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Championships at Worcester, Mass.
