Blue Hen Weekend: CAA softball, tennis

8:25 a.m., April 6, 2007--The University of Delaware softball and tennis team will provide the only home action this weekend.

The Fightin' Blue Hens softball team will play a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series against the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The teams will meet in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., Friday, April 6, and will play a single game at noon, Saturday, April 7.

UD is 8-14-1 overall and 2-4 in the conference, while UNC Wilmington is tied with Hofstra University atop the conference standings with a record of 15-22 overall and 5-1 in the CAA.

The Hens have four players batting over .300, led by freshman Mary Ann Magee at .404. Michelle Plant is batting .354, Kim Ovittore is batting .333 and Katie Lee is batting .328. Senior Carolynn Sloat leads the pitching staff, and is 5-7 with a 1.94 earned run average.

The UD men's and women's tennis teams will face CAA rival George Mason University at noon, Friday, at the Delaware Field House courts. Both teams are coming off victories over Lafayette College, with the men having won 4-3 on Tuesday and the women 7-0 on Monday.

The No. 20 ranked UD women's lacrosse team will travel to George Mason in Fairfax, Va., for a conference game at 7 p.m., Friday, and will cross the commonwealth for a second weekend CAA contest against No. 6 James Madison University at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 8, in Harrisonburg.

George Mason is 5-3 and has a two-game winning streak, while James Madison is 7-2. The Hens are 5-3, have won four straight games and entered the national rankings for the first time since 2005.

The No. 14 ranked men's lacrosse team will visit Drexel University in a conference game at 3 p.m., Saturday. The Hens are 6-3 following a loss at Duke University, while Drexel is 7-3 and in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Dragons opened the season with a shocking 11-10 victory over the University of Virginia, which had been ranked No. 1.

Also on the road will be the baseball team, which will play a three-game series at George Mason. The teams will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, at 2 p.m., Saturday, and at 1 p.m., Sunday.

Delaware is 7-15 overall and 3-6 in the CAA while George Mason is 13-15 overall and 8-6 in the conference.

The track teams will compete at the Colonial Relays at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on Friday and Saturday, and in the Penn Invitational on Saturday.

UD's rowing team will compete at the 20th annual George Washington Invitational Regatta being held Friday and Saturday on the Potomac River. George Washington University is host of the event, which is part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
