Blue Hen baseball team takes two from Seahawks

8:05 a.m., April 16, 2007--The University of Delaware baseball team won a pair of Colonial Athletic Association games against the University of North Carolina Wilmington in a series at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Fightin' Blue Hens, who now own a six-game winning streak, won 6-5 on Friday and 8-6 on Saturday. A third game scheduled Sunday was rained out.

With the victories, UD is 13-16 overall and an even 7-7 in the CAA. The Hens are scheduled to resume play with a game at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, against Temple University at Bob Hannah Stadium.

In Friday's victory, the Hens scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and held on from there. UD catcher Ryan Engelhardt got things started in the sixth with a two-run home run and Brandon Menchaca hit a run-scoring single. Ryan Jablonski had four hits, and Menchaca, Bryan Hagerich and Kyle Davis had two each.

UD's Brent Gaphardt started and went five innings and Matt Heppner earned the win in relief. David Slovak picked up his fourth save of the season.

In Saturday's win, the Hens scored six unearned runs as starter Billy Harris earned his third win of the season and Slovak got his fifth save. Adam Tsakonas and Danny Overcash hit home runs for the Hens, and Alex Buchholz had a pair of hits.
