Delaware tops Rutgers baseball team 13-9
UD’s Bryan Hagerich has hit two home runs in three straight games, tying a record set by Kevin Mench.
8:30 a.m., April 12, 2007--With outfielder Bryan Hagerich still swinging a hot bat, the University of Delaware baseball team defeated Rutgers University 13-9 on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Hagerich hit two home runs for the third straight game, tying a record for consecutive multiple home run games set in 1998 by Kevin Mench, who is now with the Milwaukee Brewers.

“This is a very special achievement for a young man who has worked very hard to get to the point where he is right now,” UD Head Coach Jim Sherman said of Hagerich's feat. “I told him before the season that I thought this would be his best year yet, and so far it has turned out that way.”

Hagerich finished with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Third baseman Ryan Jablonski also homered for the Hens, and he also drove in three runs and scored two.

Shortstop Alex Buchholz, first baseman Adam Tsakonas and catcher Bill Merkler had three hits each for the Hens.

Pitcher Todd Ozog started for the Hens and went four innings to earn his first victory. David Slovak got his third save of the season.

With the victory, the Hens improved to 11-16 and are riding a four-game winning streak.

UD will return to action with a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series against the University of North Carolina Wilmington at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, April 13, and at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15.
