Talk on contemporary art slated for April 5

3:01 p.m., April 2, 2007--Richard Meyer, associate professor of art history at the University of Southern California, will deliver the lecture, "What was Contemporary
Art?" at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in 006 Willard Hall Education Building.

The talk will address how the framing of contemporary art as a "period" or field of study affects the broader discipline of art history and the historical emergence of the idea of contemporary art. Meyer has won several fellowships and honors for his work on modern and contemporary art, especially on the effects of sexuality and gender on art and culture.

The talk, which is part of UD's 2006-07 Department of Art History lecture series, “Liminal Visions, Elusive Objects,” is free and open to the public. An informal question-and-answer session will follow. It is cosponsored by the Museum Studies Program. For more information, call (302) 831-4523.
