UD’s Varner third in Junior Grand Prix

10:07 a.m., Nov. 30, 2005--Figure skater Geoff Varner, who trains at the University of Delaware, finished third in the International Skating Union Junior Grand Prix Final held Nov. 24-27 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Varner, who put on a strong performance in the free skate, finished close behind the runner-up, Austin Kanallakan, also of the United States. Takahiko Kozuka of Japan won the event.

UD’s Christine Zukowski finished sixth in the ladies event and the pair team of Bridget Namiotka and John Coughlin finished fifth. The ladies event was won by Yu-Na Kim of Korea and the pair competition was won by Valeria Simakova and Anton Tokarev of Russia.
