Newark Police charge man in shooting

11:14 a.m., May 19, 2006--Newark Police have announced the arrest of a Wilmington man in connection with a March 28 shooting that occurred in the unit block of Patrick Henry Court and left one man wounded.

Police said they have charged Joshua J. Dryden, 29, of the 400 block of South Claymont Street in Wilmington, with assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.

On May 18, the Newark Police emergency response team and city detectives, with assistance from the Delaware State Police aviation and canine units, executed a search warrant at a residence in the unit block of Nathan Hale Court. Dryden was found in the residence and taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 with bail set at $65,000, and he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.

Police said that on March 28, Dryden and the victim engaged in a verbal argument that ended with the shooting. The victim was admitted to Christiana Hospital with a shotgun wound to the arm.
