Click here for photo album 7:29 p.m., May 12, 2006--There was music, dancing, free food and prizes as a record number of students turned out to enjoy Senior Day festivities on Friday, May 12, in the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. Participants ambled out into the hallway and beyond, making the most of the opportunity to take a break from the books, relax and hang out with friends. Onstage, Burnt Sienna cranked out tunes that everyone seemed to enjoy while Landon, star of MTV's Real World, called out the names of prize-winning contestants. Prizes included shopping sprees at Boscov's, a hot-air balloon ride, football season tickets, a Hardrock sport mountain bike, an Apple IPod mini, a Gateway MP3 player, a Dell MP3 player, a Sony digital camera, a Newark restaurant package and an ATM withdrawal challenge. Cheered on by a host of friends, Casey Hanner, a senior engineering major, managed to withdraw $1,000 during the three-minute ATM withdrawal challenge sponsored by WSFS. The challenge was videotaped to be shown to senior day participants in the Mutlipurpose Room. “I'm going to spend some of it on my friends,” Hanner said. “I was nervous and shaking a little, and I told myself 'Just hit the right button.'” Timothy Yancy, a senior marketing major, took home a sports mountain bike, courtesy of Wooden Wheels.
Arne Van Overloop, a visitor from Antwerp, Belgium, a former researcher in UD's Bartol Research Institute, said he enjoyed the entertainment and the fact that everyone seemed to be having a good time. “I like to see all these people having fun,” Van Overloop said. “I think it is very exciting,” Valerie Foster, a junior English education major, said. “It's exciting and wonderful that there are so many different prizes and such a nice crowd of people. I'm looking forward to coming back next year as a senior.”
“I'm just hanging out with some friends on Senior Day,” Saporito said. “I like it. It's fun and a good way to take a break.” “It was a bit crowded, but it's a good way to relax,” Duval said. “We are both going to miss UD.” Also enjoying the outdoors were Robin Feder, a senior mathematics major, and her friend Michael Hertz, a senior finance major. “It's great, with the prizes and seeing everybody get together here,” Hertz said. “It's been a great four years for us, and the time went by so fast. We are really going to miss UD.”
“We had a record of number of students turn out,” Prime said. “Everybody said they were having a great time.” Senior Day Prize winners in addition to Hanner and Yancy included: Elizabeth Kirstien, of Gladwyne, Pa., an operations management major; Chris Sobone, of Hummelstown, Pa., a computer science major; Andrew Farach, of Hockessin, a biological sciences major; Brenda Greene, of Hanover, Mass., an apparel design major; and Kimberly Alloggio, of Plainview, N.Y., a fashion merchandising major, each won a $1,000 Boscov's shopping spree courtesy of Boscov's.
