UD trustees approve 50 faculty promotions

5 p.m., May 23, 2006--The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved promotions of 50 faculty members at its semiannual meeting May 23 at the Trabant University Center. The appointments take effect Sept. 1.

Sixteen members of the faculty were promoted to full professor:

From the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Yan Jin, plant and soil sciences; and William Saylor, animal and food sciences;

From the College of Arts and Sciences

Brian Hanson, geography; Jeffrey Jordan, philosophy; John Koh, chemistry and biochemistry; David Olagunju, mathematical sciences; John Scholz, physical therapy; Mark Stanton, psychology; and Qing Xiang, mathematical sciences;

From the Lerner College of Business and Economics

Jeffrey Harris, finance; and Gary Weaver, business administration;

From the College of Engineering

Daniel Cha, civil and environmental engineering; and Jochen Lauterbach and Raul Lobo, both chemical engineering;

From the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy

Martha Buell, individual and family studies; and Zoubeida Dagher, education.

Promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure were 28 members of the faculty:

Jacob Bowman, entomology and wildlife ecology; and Blake Meyers and Eric Wommack, both plant and soil sciences;

From the College of Arts and Sciences

Robin Andreason and George Draper, both philosophy; Alice Ba and Matthew Hoffmann, both political science and international relations; Fioralba Cakoni and John Pelesko, both mathematical sciences; Scott Caplan and Lance Holbert, both communication; Deni Galileo, biological sciences; James Galloway, physical therapy; Ikem Okoye and Lauren Petersen, both art history; Tatyana Polenova, chemistry and biochemistry; Stuart Semmel, history; and Ivan Sun, sociology and criminal justice;

Daniel Weile, electrical and computer engineering;

Three faculty members were promoted to the rank of associate professor without tenure:

From the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy

Deborah Auger and Pamela Leland, both urban affairs and public policy; and

From the Associate in Arts program

John Bartley, biological sciences.

Promoted to the rank of assistant professor without tenure were Leslie Criston, Ralph Mason and Barbara Lee Morris, all faculty members from the English Language Institute.
