Four new Alumni Wall of Fame inductees 5 p.m., May 8, 2006--Four UD alumni were inducted into the Alumni Wall of Fame on Friday, May 5. The award honors members of the University of Delaware Alumni Association from around the nation and the world who have distinguished themselves in professional and community endeavors. Charles C. Allen III, '71 AG, T.W. Fraser Russell, '64PhD EG, Phyllis Williams Sharps, '76M HN, and W. David Sincoskie, '75, '77M, '80PhD EG, were inducted in a ceremony at Bayard Sharp Hall. The wall is located in the Alumni Lounge of the Perkins Student Center. The induction ceremony began with remarks by Dalit Gulak, a junior foreign languages and literatures major who received the 2006 Emalea Pusey Warner Award for the outstanding senior woman, and Thomas Isherwood, a senior international relations major who received the 2006 Alexander J. Taylor Sr. Award for the outstanding senior man. Gulak and Isherwood were introduced by Julie Moyer-Knowles, AS '82, president of UD's Alumni Association and a member of the Alumni Wall of Fame. Gulak recounted her experience as a volunteer in a hospital in a rural area of the Dominican Republic in fall 2004 and the pleasant surprise when she ran into five UD alumni in a team that was performing spinal surgery on an infant as volunteers at the same hospital. “I could not believe that we had all come to the same place with a common interest,” Gulak, who immediately offered her bilingual skills and assisted the team as an interpreter, said. “That's what being a University of Delaware alumna means to me. It's about dedication and service.” The four new inductees, who were selected from 135,000 graduates, bring to 205 the names on the wall. Among the initial Alumni Wall of Fame inductees were Revolutionary War heroes and signers of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, as well as physicians, engineers and authors. Recent graduates include men and women from business, law, education, creative and performing arts, athletics, religion, politics, medicine and the military. Allen was the lead volunteer in fund-raising for Allen Biotechnology Laboratory, located on the UD campus, which is a leading facility fighting avian diseases. Russell, Allan P.
