African-American Students of Distinction honored

11:52 a.m., May 19, 2006--More than 180 African-American students with grade point averages of 3.3 or higher were recognized for their achievements in a special ceremony attended by family members and hosted by UD President David P. Roselle on May 13 in Clayton Hall.

Joining Roselle in recognizing the African-American students of distinction were Judith Y. Gibson, assistant vice president for affirmative action and multicultural programs, and keynote speaker Norma Gaines-Hanks, associate professor of individual and family studies at UD.

Musical performances at the ceremony included “Ain't It a Pretty Night,” from Susannah composed by Carlisle Floyd, performed by soprano Marie Robinson, associate professor of music, and accompanied by Hyun Soo Kim, AS '08, on piano. The closing musical selection was performed on saxophone by Escamillio Davis II, EG '08.
