UD women's rowing competes in Philly

9:54 a.m., March 27, 2006--The University of Delaware women's rowing team competed at the Murphy Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon but did not advance any of its four boats to Sunday's finals.

UD finished second in its heat of the varsity fours, third in its heat of the second varsity eights, and fourth in both the novice eights and varsity eights heats.

The UD varsity fours had the best finish of the day as the team of coxswain Callie Tegan, Emily Canniff, Lynn Hamski, Katie Gooding and Nicolette Lotrionte was second in the heat with a time of 8:17.6. Bucknell University won the race in 7:54.9.

In the second varsity eights heat, UD's team of coxswain Alison Harrington, Justine Strausser, Nikki Jackowsky, Katie Broullire, Lindsey Wood, Lily Chavarriaga, Rachel Thomas, Kristen Cannatelli and Lana Rivers was third in 7:28.6. The U.S. Naval Academy won the heat in a time of 7:03.3 and St. Joseph's University finished second in 7:12.3.

In the novice eights heat, UD's team of coxswain Amanda Burton, Lisa Ferrara, Candace Quinn, Taima McCartney, Catherine Hansen, Liz Clark, Sara Wetstone, Lisa Medina and Kiersten Joesten finished fourth in a time of 7:47.1. Navy won with a time of 7:16.8 followed by Villanova University (7:20.1) and American University (7:38.3).

In the varsity eights, UD finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:12.1 behind winner Temple University (6:56.3), Villanova (6:57.6), and Lehigh University (7:05.6). The UD team consisted of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Melanie Turner, Lane Kohl, Christina Stanley, Laura Beaufort, Elizabeth Carey, Jess Kostick, Jenn Boutin and Cathy Savarese.
