Medco becomes Rx drug benefit manager July 1

1:06 p.m., June 27, 2006--Beginning July 1, the state of Delaware's prescription drug benefit will be managed by Medco, the nation's leading prescription drug benefit manager. Medco replaces the current manager, Express-Scripts, and its specialty pharmacy, Curascripts.

Medco has a large network of participating retail pharmacies throughout the United States and its territories. Its member services representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (except Thanksgiving and Christmas). Pharmacists also are available around the clock for medication consultations. Medco’s web site, [www.medco.com], offers extensive online resources, including health and benefit information and online pharmacy services.

Medco is in the process of mailing Welcome Kits to those who are covered under the prescription drug plan.

Each Welcome Kit includes a:

  • New Medco ID card(s) that MUST be used beginning July 1;
  • Handbook (summary plan description);
  • Medco prescription drug formulary;
  • Form to complete transfer of prescriptions from Express Scripts Mail to Medco by Mail, as well as the order form needed for the transfer;
  • Prescription fax form;
  • Coordination of benefits/direct claim form; and
  • Health, Allergy & Medication Questionnaire (Some employees may have received this form separately before receiving the Welcome Kit.).

“We are in the process of posting information to our web site [http://www.udel.edu/hr] and will keep it updated as information becomes available,” Chris Ulrich, manager, Office of Human Resources, said. “The list of 90-day participating pharmacies is available and is updated as additional pharmacies are added to the list.”

Medco services representatives are available at 1-800-939-2142 to provide general information regarding UD's prescription benefits. Beginning July 1, Medco customer service representatives will be able to access specific information about each UD beneficiary's prescription coverage.

For more information, call the Office of Human Resources at (302) 831-2171, or e-mail [ben-serv@udel.edu].
