David Allen Parvis
 

Jan. 27, 2006--David Allen Parvis, 85, died Oct. 31, 2005, in Newtown, Conn.

He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1938 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware in 1943.

Parvis served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1944-46 as a PT boat executive officer and ship repair officer. Following his military service, he worked for the DuPont Co. until his retirement.

He enjoyed reading, horticulture and sailing on the Chesapeake and was fascinated by electronics and computers. A loyal fan of Fightin’ Blue Hen football, Parvis was a season ticket holder until age 84.

Survivors include nieces, Susan Parvis Cheek and Melissa Marie Parvis, both of Baltimore, Molly Ann Parvis, of Port Deposit, Md., a nephew, Paul Bryan Parvis, of Newtown, Conn; a great nephew and three great nieces. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert Alvin Parvis, Jr. and William Cecil Parvis, and a nephew, Alan Fisher Parvis.

Memorial services were held in Newtown, Conn., and at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Wilmington.
