George Mason defeats men’s basketball team

Calvin Cannon
10:29 a.m., Jan. 9, 2006--The University of Delaware men’s basketball team continues to struggle, falling 70-56 to George Mason University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest played Saturday night at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 4-9 overall and 0-4 in the CAA. The Hens will play a pair of conference matches this week, traveling to Northeastern University for a game at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, and then returning home to face Towson University at 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Bob Carpenter Center. Northeastern is 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the CAA, and Towson is 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In the loss to George Mason, Calvin Cannon came off the bench to lead the Hens with 10 points. Senior forward Harding Nana scored just seven points and pulled down eight rebounds before fouling out with 6:46 left to play.

“We played very well defensively in the first half but we gave up too many second chance points and committed too many unforced turnovers in the second half,” UD Head Coach David Henderson said. “We never got it going in the second half, and they increased their lead at the foul line.”
