Dodson sets UD record, running mile in 4:09.93

10:18 a.m., Jan. 30, 2006--University of Delaware junior Brad Dodson set a new school record in the one-mile run, finishing in 4:09.93 at the weekend’s Penn State National Open indoor track meet in State College, Pa.

Dodson’s time broke the previous mark of 4:11.94 set by John Brannon in 1994. He finished ninth overall in the competition, which was won by Sam Bair of the University of Pittsburgh in a time of 4:00.14.

Also at the Penn State meet, UD’s Will Jurkowski and Jared Wasser took 10th place in their respective events. Jurkowski ran the 800 meters in a time 1:54.20 while Wasser posted a throw of 50 feet, 2.50 inches in the shot put. P.J. Meany finished 27th in the five-kilometer run with a time of 15:19.67.

Colleen O’Brien finished 23rd in the five-kilometers, running 18:17.46, and Rachel Young finished 23rd in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 4.2 inches.
