Amanda Blackstone out for rest of season

Amanda Blackstone
8:56 a.m., Feb. 28, 2006--Senior Amanda Blackstone of the University of Delaware women's basketball team will be out for the remainder of the season after tearing her right anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and meniscus, UD Head Coach Tina Martin announced Monday.

Blackstone, a 6-foot forward, suffered the injury in a 75-61 victory over Drexel University on Friday.

“Obviously we are very disappointed for Amanda and for our team,” Martin said. “She has been such an important part of our program. We will continue to compete and play as hard as possible and reach the goals that we have set for this season. Amanda has had a tremendous career and has been an outstanding leader for our program.”

Blackstone, an 83 percent free throw shooter, averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds this season, while adding 19 steals, 18 assists, 13 three-pointers and five blocked shots. She posted career-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 70-49 win over Georgia State on Feb. 2.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are 20-6 on the season and will play the final home game of the regular season against Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Thursday, night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
