‘Curious George’ on Mitchell Hall stage Feb. 12

‘Curious George’
11:46 p.m., Dec. 12, 2005--The University of Delaware’s 2005-06 Family Performing Arts Series continues at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, in Mitchell Hall with everyone’s favorite monkey, Curious George, in a play by Theatreworks USA.

When the Man in the Yellow Hat goes to Africa to bring back a monkey for the zoo, he meets George, a mischievous, loveable little monkey. With Curious George at his side, his life will never be the same!

But George has to live at the zoo, not in a real home. So, he plots an escape and borrows some balloons, which carry him up, higher and higher, away from the zoo and the Man in the Yellow Hat. As the Man in the Yellow Hat searches for him, George has many new adventures; after all, he is Curious George! Recommended for grades pre-K to third grade.

Other programs slated for UD’s Family Performing Arts Series, which all begin at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Hall, are listed below.

Little Red Riding Hood and Other Stories

‘Little Red Riding Hood’
Live theatre will cast its spell on very young audience members as they journey into the imaginary world of “Little Red Riding Hood” and other “Once Upon A Time” favorites, presented by the Pushcart Players on Saturday, March 11. Timeless tales, including “The Princess and the Pea,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “All’s Well that Ends Well,” will be brought to life on stage with a slightly contemporary twist. A great introduction to the theater for younger students up to grade two.

Alice in Wonderland

Filled with colorful sets and inventive costumes, American Family Theater’s production of Alice in Wonderland is sure to enchant all members of the family on Sunday, April 23. The audience will accompany Alice as she follows the White Rabbit to Wonderland and meets Tweedledum, Tweedledee, the Queen of Hearts, the Knave of Hearts and the Mad Hatter.

Tickets

Tickets for Family Performing Arts Series events are $12 for the general public, $10 for UD faculty, staff, alumni and senior citizens and $5 for students and children. A 10 percent discount is available for group sales of 10 or more tickets per show.

‘Alice in Wonderland’
A pre-performance buffet dinner will be served at UD’s Blue & Gold Club for Family Performing Arts Series events. Prices are $14.95 for adults and $7.50 for children 5-11. Guests attending the show who present their tickets to their servers will receive 10 percent off dinner that evening (not including alcohol). For reservations and information, call the Blue & Gold Club at (302) 831-2582.

For tickets to the performances, call the Hartshorn Hall box office at (302) 831-2204, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. For more information, visit [www.udel.edu/performingarts], send e-mail to [performingarts@udel.edu] or call (302) 831-8741.

Beginning at noon on the Friday prior to each performance, the Hartshorn Hall box office will stop selling tickets for the performance to allow for the transition to the Mitchell Hall box office. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase in person at the Mitchell Hall box office on the day of the performance beginning one hour before the scheduled start time of the performance.

The University of Delaware 2005-06 Performing Arts Series and Family Series are made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency committed to promoting and supporting the arts in Delaware.
