Salsamba Latin Jazz Group in concert Jan. 27

Salsamba Latin Jazz Group
2:22 p.m., Dec. 13, 2005--The University of Delaware’s 2005-06 Performing Arts Series resumes Jan. 27 with a Latin jazz concert guaranteed to chase away the winter blues.

Other scheduled performances include a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a special concert titled “Ceruti Unlimited!--Xiang Gao and Friends II.”

All performances are in Mitchell Hall. Performing Arts Series programs and special presentations begin at 8 p.m.

Salsamba Latin Jazz Group

Salsamba is a Latin jazz quintet with a recipe for musical excitement that blends the traditions of American jazz with the spicy rhythms of Cuba, Brazil and the Caribbean. The group will present their hot Latin beats, including mambo, cha-cha, samba, bolero, bossa nova and calypso on Friday, Jan. 27. More information about the group is available at [www.salsamba.com].

Koresh Dance Company

Koresh Dance Company
Renowned for its powerful stage presence and high-energy style, Philadelphia’s Koresh Dance Company has been hailed as an extraordinary and vital force in the local and national dance scene. Founded in 1991 by Israeli-born choreographer and artistic director Ronen Koresh, the troupe will present an emotional blend of ballet, modern and jazz dance on Friday, Feb. 17. The Cathie Ryan Band

Cathie Ryan, whose crystalline vocals and insightful songwriting have made her an original and distinctive voice in Celtic music, will be joined by her five-piece Celtic band for a concert on Friday, March 3. Since her acclaimed seven-year tenure as lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, the Detroit-born Ryan has established herself as one of Celtic music’s most popular and enduring singer-songwriters. Bravo! Amadeus!

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a gala concert dedicated to his music on Friday, May 12. The event features Eugenia Zuckerman, flute; Qing Li, violin; Nicholas Tzavaras, cello; Peter Landgren, horn; Anthea Kreston, viola; and Julie Nishimura, piano. Honoring the music of the master, this concert will be the largest classical music concert on campus this season.

“Ceruti Unlimited!--Xiang Gao and Friends II”

World-renowned UD faculty violin virtuoso Xiang Gao and the UD Ceruti violin will return to the stage for a performance in the styles of classical, bluegrass, jazz and beyond on Friday, Feb. 24. Special guest stars from around the world will be featured.

Tickets

Tickets for each of the Performing Arts Series events are $17 for the general public, $12 for UD faculty, staff, alumni and senior citizens, and $5 for students and children. A 10 percent discount is available for group sales of 10 or more tickets per show.

Beginning at noon on the Friday prior to each performance, the Hartshorn Hall box office will stop selling tickets for the performance to allow for the transition to the Mitchell Hall box office. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase in person at the Mitchell Hall box office on the day of the performance beginning one hour before the scheduled start time of the performance.
