Goalkeeper Collins joins UD men’s lacrosse staff

Chris Collins
10:26 a.m., Dec. 16, 2005--Chris Collins, a standout goalkeeper for the University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team who was named an All-American following his senior season in 2005, has been added to the Fightin’ Blue Hens coaching staff.

Collins, who graduated in May and is working as a teacher at Newark High School, will serve as a volunteer and will work primarily with UD goalkeepers, Head Coach Bob Shillinglaw said.

“Chris is a great addition to our coaching staff,” Shillinglaw said. “He knows what it takes to be an outstanding goalkeeper, has a real passion for the game, and will be an enthusiastic coach. He will play a key role in helping our young goalkeepers develop this spring.”

Also on the staff are associate head coach Greg Carroll and assistant coach Judd Lattimore.

Collins earned U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association honorable mention All-America in 2005 after leading the nationally-ranked Hens to an 11-6 record, the Colonial Athletic Association regular season championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I tournament.

He started all 17 games in 2005, posting a 7.56 goals against average and a .584 save percentage. He set school records for minutes played in a season, goals against average in a season and goals against average in career (8.64), and ranks fourth all-time at UD with 554 saves.

The 2006 UD men’s lacrosse team will open at St. Joseph’s University on Saturday, Feb. 11.
