Freshman wins ballet merit award

4:02 p.m., Dec. 16, 2005--A UD freshman has been honored by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAIA).

Aynsley Taylor Inglis was given a Merit Award in Ballet by the foundation, placing her in the top 10 percent of 6,500 high school seniors in the competition.

Inglis is a 17-year-old freshman enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she is majoring in political science. She is a graduate of Ursuline Academy and studies ballet with the School of First State Ballet Theatre.

Inglis won a bronze medal in the 2004 Russian Pointe USA
National Youth Ballet Competition and took third place in the 2005 Youth Grand Prix Regional Competition.

Based in Miami, NFIA is the screening organization that nominates students in the arts to be considered for the performing scholars section of the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Inglis plans to compete in the 2006 Grand Prix Regional Competition from Jan. 27-29 in Philadelphia.
