Blue Hens Parks, Cuff named to All-East team

Tom Parks
9:30 a.m., Dec. 21, 2005--University of Delaware football standouts Tom Parks and Omar Cuff have been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) first team.

The All-East team was selected by a vote of ECAC member head coaches, including those from the Atlantic 10 Conference, Ivy League, Patriot League, Northeast Conference, Mid Eastern Athletic Conference and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Parks, a senior defensive lineman, earned a spot on the squad for the second straight year while Cuff, a sophomore running back, was a first-time recipient.

Parks, a consensus All-American in 2004, registered 31 tackles in 2005 and had a team-high five sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. He also recovered a fumble, broke up two passes and set a new UD record with four blocked kicks. He finished his career ranked sixth all-time at UD in tackles for loss (37.5) and ninth in sacks (18.5). He was a first team All-Atlantic 10 selection.

Omar Cuff
Cuff led the Atlantic 10 in all-purpose yardage (147.2 yards per game) and scoring (9.8 points per game), and was second in the conference in rushing (109.5 yards per game). He carried the ball 249 times for 1,205 yards and 14 touchdowns and also led the team in receiving with 41 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns.

He set a school record with five touchdowns in a season-opening win over Lehigh University and became the first UD player since 1985 to lead the team in rushing and receiving. His rushing yardage was the eighth highest single season total in school history.

Cuff was a third team Sports Network All-American, a first team All-Atlantic 10 selection and he finished 15th in voting for the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in NCAA Division I-AA.

The Atlantic 10 placed 20 players on the 34-player first team and honorable mention squads. Brown University running back Nick Hartigan was named the ECAC Player of the Year, and Colgate University running back Jordan Scott was named ECAC Rookie of the Year.
