UDSIS training sessions start April 10
5:30 p.m., April 5, 2006--A new web site and a series of training sessions are being offered to help familiarize current users of SIS/Plus with the new University of Delaware Student Information System (UDSIS). Beginning Monday, April 10, a series of two-hour training sessions will be offered at six locations during April. The sessions are required training for faculty administrators, professional advisers and academic administrative staff. Training for nonadministrative faculty will be offered at a later date. The sessions, which will cover basic functionality and navigation of UDSIS, are a prerequisite for more advanced administrative training that will be offered during the next six months. The web site for UDSIS [www.udel.edu/UDSISproject/info] was developed by Information Technologies and the training web pages were designed by Adam Tatz, a senior visual communications major with an interactive media design minor, Amy Greenwald Foley, senior associate director of admissions, said. “Because UDSIS impacts various departments and communities on campus, the training site will provide news and updates about the project,” Foley said. “Visitors will be able to read a multitude of FAQs within the help section and an implementation timeline can be found in the calendar section.” The most exciting aspect of the new site, Foley said, is the online training opportunity it affords visitors. “Within the training section, visitors will be able to watch 'movies' that demonstrate how aspects of the system work. They also will be able to complete exercises that should make them comfortable operating in the new system,” Foley said. “The site, which should be ready for everyone's viewing pleasure by the end of this week, will be an entry point where users may practice using the production and practice databases.” The web site and training sessions represent the latest component of the University's overall administrative systems upgrade that began in 1998 when the Office of Human Resources switched to the PeopleSoft system. The UDSIS system, which replaces the 15-year old SIS/Plus system, already is operational for undergraduate and graduate admissions, cashiering and financial aid. By the fall, all student information functions, including registration, drop/add, student billing, advising and course scheduling, will be done in UDSIS. “I'm excited about the training materials that the communications training team is creating, including the 'captivate movies' that can be used as in-person training, as well as self-paced online training,” Ellen Lepine, assistant director in the Office of Associate Treasurer-Financial Services, said. “This means that people who happened to miss a training session can see the movies on their own, while people attending the sessions in April can review any of the training areas as they see fit.” UDSIS is being installed by the University's Information Technologies group with the assistance of the CEDAR Group, a software development consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta. Because it is more stable and robust, the new system should decrease technical headaches that accompanied the use of SIS/Plus For more information about UDSIS and the training calendar, visit [www.udel.edu/udsis-info]. To register for one training session per person, e-mail Wendy Groce at [wgroce@udel.edu], with date, time and location preferences. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Remaining open training sessions are 9-11 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, 046 Colburn Lab, and 9:30-11:30 a.m., Friday, April 28, Cannon Hall computer lab (Lewes Campus). Article by Jerry Rhodes |
