mtvU grants for student community projects

4:26 p.m., April 7, 2006--With the addition of mtvU to UD's campus cable TV system, students are now eligible to win $1,000 grants for their organizations' community service projects.

Every week throughout the school year, mtvU funds the startup of a new student organization created to meet a pressing community need or to support an existing organization's project.

Official rules, criteria, guidelines and applications are online at [www.mtvu.com/contests/mtvu_grants].

Winners will have the opportunity to be featured on mtvU News.

Past winners include the Raven Project at the College of the Redwoods, connecting homeless and runaway youth to resources in the Humboldt County area; Herkimer County Community College's Mini Park Project, which helps maintain and restore local parks; Lincoln University's Iota Phi Theta project that mentors male students in a local high school; and Rosemont College's 19CENTS, which funds the cost of school lunches for children.
