Chapel Street Players' 'I Hate Hamlet' features UD ties

6:11 p.m., April 24, 2006--On Friday, April 28, the Chapel Street Players will begin its performances of the Broadway hit comedy, I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick. The cast of the show reflects a unique connection between the community theater group and UD.

I Hate Hamlet opens at 8 p.m., Friday, April 28, with additional performances at 8 p.m. on April 29, May 5, 6, 12 and 13. There will also be 2 p.m. Sunday matinees on April 30 and May 7.

In the play, the ghost of legendary John Barrymore comes to life to help a young TV actor learn to play the part of Hamlet, for which the legendary John Barrymore won acclaim in his time, half a century earlier.

I Hate Hamlet is being directed by Jamie Cunningham, professional director, actor, dancer, choreographer and member of UD's theatre department. Cunningham also is the director and cocreator of From the Horse's Mouth, a critically acclaimed show blending both theatre and dance that has been staged in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami and other cities.

The cast of the show includes UD alums and previous members of the E-52 Student Theatre: Judith David, custodial manager of UD's facilities department, and Scott Mason, associate director of UD student centers. Also appearing on stage is Emily Peterson, AS '08, a member of E-52, and UD alum Art Bookout who worked with E-52 and the Harrington Theatre Arts Company while attending UD.

Chapel Street Players was created by the wife of Robert Kase who started UD's theater department, as well as the E-52 troupe. The Chapel Street Players were originally known as the University Drama Group and performed in Mitchell Hall until the 1970s, when it changed its name and relocated to Chapel Street.

Tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for seniors and $8 for students. Reservations can be made by calling (302) 368-2248 or by visiting [www.chapelstreetplayers.org].
