PEACE OUTside Campus events honor Bonistall

3:49 p.m., April 28, 2006--Lindsey Bonistall, a UD sophomore English/journalism major from White Plains, N.Y., who was murdered May 1, 2005, will be remembered with several awareness-building events set to take place on and near the campus Monday-Saturday, May 1-6.

UD and PEACE OUTside Campus, the Lindsey M. Bonistall Foundation's national campaign to promote peaceful and safe living environments in off-campus college communities, are sponsoring the activities. Events planned for the week include a benefit at participating restaurants, a visit to campus by Kristen Bonistall, Lindsey Bonistall's older sister, and a memorial service for Lindsey Bonistall.

The following are the scheduled events.

On Monday, May 1, during lunch and dinner, students and members of the UD community are encouraged to dine at Newark's Café Gelato and Homegrown Café to benefit PEACE OUTside Campus.

Thursday, May 4, at 8 p.m., in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center, Kristen Bonistall will speak about moving forward after her loss and about maintaining safe off-campus living environments.

Friday, May 5, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., PEACE OUTside T-shirts and wristbands will be available at a Food Court kiosk in the Trabant University Center.

Saturday, May 6, at 2:30 p.m., a memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 6, in The Grove (the wooded area south of Alison Hall West). In case of rain, the service will be held in the Gore Hall Rotunda.

While at UD, Ms. Bonistall was valued by classmates for her kindness to others, her sense of humor, her energy and her spirited involvement in a number of campus activities. Additionally, Ms. Bonistall was recognized for her writing ability and contributions to The Review.

The Lindsey Marie Bonistall Memorial Scholarship, established by the University of Delaware, with the assistance of friends of the University, was established last May to honor Ms. Bonistall and her love of writing. Awarded annually to an outstanding rising senior student of journalism, the scholarship was established with initial gifts of $50,000 to the endowment. Persons who want to add to the scholarship endowment may send contributions to the Office of University Development, 109 Hullihen Hall, University of Delaware, Newark, DE 19716. Checks should be made payable to the University of Delaware, with the notation “In memory of Lindsey Bonistall.”
