New Bookstore manager a marathon runner

Jennifer Galt, new manager of the UD Bookstore
11:42 a.m., Oct. 11, 2004--Jennifer Galt runs on the UD campus an hour or two a day, six days a week. As the new manager of the UD Bookstore, Galt, who competes in three to four marathons a year, including the Boston race, knows that setting goals is important in athletics and business.

She said running on campus gives her a good chance to see what’s out there, what makes the University uniquely UD. And, that will help her understand in what direction to take the Bookstore.

Galt’s only been on the job since Sept. 28 and hasn’t yet had a chance to set objectives for the future of the store.

“I’m just getting to know my staff and the operation of this Bookstore. But, I’m a retail person at heart with a strong merchandising background and high standards as to how a Bookstore should look and run,” Galt said.

Galt recently was transferred to UD by Bookstore operator Barnes & Noble from the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Va., when Cosmo Olivieri moved to Lehigh University to serve as general manager of that campus Bookstore.

Olivieri served UD for two years during the transition of store management to Barnes & Noble. He oversaw the renovation of the main floor, supervised the installation of several systems for book and supplies inventory management and worked with UD and Barnes & Noble information technologists to enhance the web site for text book reservations.

Galt has been with Barnes & Noble for seven years, serving as assistant general manager of the Bookstore at William and Mary and general manager of the Oberlin College Bookstore.

She received her master’s degree in public administration from Cleveland State University, and worked for ITT Sheraton before joining Barnes & Noble.

Galt said she was attracted to the UD because the Bookstore has “great potential” and because of the beauty of the campus and surrounding area.
