Popular bicycle locks being recalled 10:39 a.m., Oct. 1, 2004--UDs Department of Public Safety advises students that bike-lock maker Kryptonite is recalling its popular U-lock because of a design failure that makes locks with round keys vulnerable. Kryptonite is replacing the tubular cylinder locks with a disc-style lock that it currently uses in its top-of-the-line New York lock. For more information on Kryptonite products, including product replacement, visit [www.kryptonitelocks.com]. Students with these cylinder-type locks should be aware of problems that have been reported and should consider replacing their locks with ones that are considered more theft-resistant, Larry Thornton, director of public safety, said. Students also should remember to register their bikes with the Department of Public Safety.
