11:37 a.m., Oct. 11, 2004--The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics has honored three of its graduates with the college’s 2004 Alumni Awards of Excellence.

David J. Freschman, a 1984 accounting graduate, Michael J. Lancellot, a 1978 business administration graduate, and Ann Shepard Visalli, a 1987 economics graduate, were presented the awards at a ceremony during Homecoming weekend. The annual Alumni Awards of Excellence were established in 1991 to honor graduates of the college who have exhibited exceptional accomplishments in their contributions to their professions and to the community.

Freschman is president and CEO of the Delaware Innovation Fund, an early stage venture capital fund that focuses on entrepreneurial ventures in the mid-Atlantic region. He is a member of numerous boards, has been a lecturer at the White House Conference on Small Business and served a three-year term on the Small Business Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. In 2003, Freschman received the UD Presidential Citation for Outstanding Alumni Achievement. He lives in Hockessin with his wife, Robin, AS ’84, and their two children.

Lancellot is the retired president and CEO of North American sales for the Cutco Corp., where he began working a summer job as a sales representative in 1977. He lectures frequently for the University and other educational institutions and is a member of the Lerner College Visiting Committee. Lancellot is active in many charities, including the American Cancer Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Catholic Charities Appeal and the Christian Children’s Fund. He and his wife, Joanie, have an adult son and live in Fort Myers, Fla.

Visalli has been Delaware’s deputy state treasurer since 2001, overseeing management of $1.2 billion of invested balances and responsible for all staff management and daily operations of the state treasury. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Lerner College’s Department of Economics, is president of the college’s alumni association and has been a board member of the UD Alumni Association. Visalli is active in various community organizations and has served as president of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Wilmington. She lives in Dover with her husband, Jeff, and their son.
