UD student injured in hit-and-run accident

4:30 p.m., Nov. 19, 2004--A 21-year-old UD student received minor injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing East Delaware Avenue at South College Avenue at 10:14 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, according to Newark Police.

The student, while in the crosswalk, was struck by a northbound vehicle turning right from South College Avenue onto East Delaware. The student was carried approximately 15 feet on the vehicle.

The student was taken to the Christiana Emergency Center, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

Eyewitnesses gave the vehicle’s registration number, and the driver was stopped by a Delaware state trooper at his residence on Foxton Drive in Newark. The driver, Ramy Mikhaeil, was cited for failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
