Mike The Miz Mizanin of MTV fame kept the action moving and the excitement level high as he called out the names of the winners of special prizes that ranged from $100 American Express gift cards to an ATM challenge courtesy of WSFS Bank and a $7,500 shopping spree at Boscovs. Mizanin has appeared on MTVs Real World 11: Back to New York, The Battle of the Seasons, and The Inferno, as well as WWEs Tough Enough IV. While the temperatures were a little chilly under cloudy skies, seniors kept warm by swaying to the tunes of local band favorite Chorduroy. Sponsored by the Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress (DUSC), the event featured free hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverages, with special $1 food items of Seasons Pizza slices and Ben & Jerrys ice cream. Lauren Marie Tadeo, a senior English major, said it was worth the wait when she heard The Miz announce her as the winner of the $7,500 shopping spree at Boscovs. It was a little cold, but Im glad I stayed. I just cant believe it, Tadeo said. Im going to go shopping for furniture for a new apartment after graduation.
Pace said she and her friends enjoyed spending the afternoon together and also thought the The Miz did a great job of keeping the crowd entertained and engaged. No student came up with the matching last six digits of their Social Security number necessary to win the limited-edition solar yellow Scion. Daniel Lins, a senior chemistry major, said he liked the idea of having an event so close to his UD home. Its cool. I live in Sharp Hall, Lins said, so I really cant help hearing the band. I thought I would come out and enjoy the afternoon. Senior mechanical engineering major Brett Entrekin also said he enjoyed listening to the band and meeting friends in the crowd.
Senior music and performance major Paul Robertson, who won a diploma frame from the UD Bookstore, said he was enjoying the afternoon and was surprised that he won a prize. "This is really great. A lot of my friends are here," Robertson, who plans to pursue a graduate degree in music/performance at Jersey City University, said. Melanie Mitchell, a senior in CHEP, was enjoying the activities and waiting to see who the prizewinners were. Its nice to see all my classmates here, Mitchell said. It also is nice to spend the time here to reminisce about the last four years. Senior Day prize winners in addition to Tadeo, Pace and Robertson also include:
